Arrangements for the treatment of influenza in eligible children

Children over 40 kilograms who require treatment for influenza can take oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) capsules, which are available from your general practitioner.

Children five years of age and older who require treatment for influenza can use zanamivir (Relenza®) inhaler, which is also available from your general practitioner.

Children under five years of age who require treatment for influenza will need oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) suspension. In metropolitan areas (Sydney, Wollongong, the Central Coast, Newcastle and the Blue Mountains), nominated community pharmacies have been supplied with oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) suspension. A full list of community pharmacies with oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) suspension is available here.

Please call ahead to community pharmacies to make sure supply is available.

Children under five years of age who require treatment for influenza in rural or regional areas of NSW can obtain oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) suspension from local hospital pharmacies or emergency departments.

Please call ahead to hospital pharmacies to make sure supply is available.
